Sao Paulo beat Flamengo in Brazil's Serie A

Rio de Janeiro : A second-half header from midfielder Everton gave Sao Paulo a 1-0 away victory over Flamengo in their Brazilian Serie A match here.

The 29-year-old nodded in a Joao Rojas cross in the 47th minute at the Maracana Stadium on Wednesday evening as Sao Paulo rose to second in the 20-team standings with 26 points from 13 matches. Flamengo remain leaders with 27 points, reports Xinhua news agency.

In Sao Paulo, goals either side of halftime from Rodriguinho and Angel Romero gave Corinthians a 2-0 victory over Botafogo.

Corinthinas moved up to second and Botafogo dropped to 10th.

In Porto Alege, Bressan and Andre scored in the second half as Gremio overcame Atletico Mineiro 2-0.

In other games on Wednesday, Ceara edged out Sporting Recife 1-0 and Vitoria beat Parana club 1-0.
