Great idea! This seat in Mexico Metro system makes men uncomfortable!
Los Angeles : Sexual harassment is a part of a woman’s day-to-day life. 9 in 10 women have faced it at some point of their lives. Now, in a move to make men conscious about the issue, Mexico Metro has taken up a new initiative.
They have designed a certain seat on Metro known as the ‘penis seat’. The plastic is moulded into a man’s chest and groin area, complete with belly button, nipples and flaccid personal organ.
In a video, one can see people sitting down without looking first, only to leap up again when they felt something unexpected between their legs.
The video is meant to illustrate that people have a right to go wherever they want but without being confronted by sexual comments or people trying to grope them. Notably, ‘9 out of 10 women in Mexico City have been victims of some form of sexual violence.’
The seat has been actually put there as part of a campaign against sexual harassment and as seen men who sit down on the seat immediately feel uncomfortable.
The sign above it reads: ‘It’s uncomfortable to sit here but it doesn’t compare with the sexual violence that women suffer in their everyday lives.’
