ISRO launches student-made satellite Kalamsat named after Abdul Kalam

Hyderabad : The Indian Space Research Organisation ( ISRO) on Thursday launched its 46th flight of Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle (PSLV-C44) to put Microsat-R, an imaging satellite and student-made Kalamsat, a communication satellite named after former President Abdul Kalam, into the space. The rocket took flight from the Satish Dhawan Space Centre in Sriharikota.

The launch took place at its scheduled time 11:37 PM via PSLV which is a four stage launch vehicle with alternating solid and liquid stages.

The rocket PSLV-C44 is the first mission of PSLV-DL and is a new variant.

In other news, ISRO's second lunar mission – Chandrayaan 2 – has been postponed to March from late 2018.
