Pinki Jangra do as Sarita Devi, turns professional

New Delhi : Another Indian boxer turns professional. It’s bad news for Indian boxing as sportspersons are opting to turn professional rather to dawn the tri-colour. First it was former world champion L Sarita Devi and Commonwealth Games bronze-medallist boxer Pinki Jangra has decided to turn professional.

Meanwhile, the boxer will not give up on her amateur career either, which is a good thing for the fraternity.

The former national champion has joined hands with the Sporty Boxing Private Limited, the commercial arm of the Indian Boxing Council (IBC).

Pinki and Sarita Devi, will make her professional debuts in a January 19 event.

The flyweight boxer, who was once seen as a rival to the legendary M C Mary Kom, had been laid low by a wrist injury, which also forced her out of the National Championships in Haridwar last year.

The Asian Championships silver medal has the rare credit of beating Mary Kom in a National Championship.
