DPSA hosts Delhi State Para Powerlifting Championships 2025–26 at Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium

New Delhi : The Divyang Para Sports Association of Delhi (DPSA) today hosted the 3rd Senior and 2nd Junior & Sub-Junior Delhi State Para Powerlifting Championships 2025–26 at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium, Lodhi Road, New Delhi. The one-day state-level championship witnessed participation from 110 para-athletes representing various districts across the national capital.

Affiliated with the Paralympic Committee of India and recognised by the Government of Delhi, DPSA hosted the championship to strengthen the competitive ecosystem for para powerlifting in Delhi and provide structured exposure to athletes ahead of higher-level competitions.

The event was inaugurated in the presence of Dr. Arvind Menon, National Secretary, Bharatiya Janata Party (Chief Guest), and Devesh Shrivastava, IPS, Special Commissioner, Delhi Police.

Addressing the gathering, Dr. Arvind Menon said, “Sport is built on discipline, repetition and perseverance. When effort is sustained with consistency, excellence follows. Today’s para-athletes represent that spirit, transforming challenges into strength and proving that determination, not limitation, defines success. Initiatives like Khelo India and Fit India have created an environment where talent from every section of society can rise, compete and make the nation proud.”

Congratulating the participants, Devesh Shrivastava, IPS, praised the athletes for their resilience and commitment, and encouraged them to continue pursuing excellence at national and international platforms.

The championship saw intense competition across senior women’s, senior men’s, and junior and sub-junior men’s categories.

Speaking after the event, Parul Singh, President, Divyang Para Sports Association of Delhi, said the championship reflected DPSA’s commitment to providing a fair, competitive and athlete-centric platform for para sports in the capital. She added that regular state-level competitions play a crucial role in talent identification and long-term athlete development.
