7.4 magnitude earthquake switches panic mode on Papua New Guinea

  • New Delhi : A 7.4 magnitude earthquake sowed panic situation in the South Pacific island nation of Papua New Guinea on Tuesday.

  • Officials warned of local tsunami in the area as an impact.

  • According to US Geological Survey the quake struck about 130 kilometers (80 miles) south of the town of Kokopo in northeastern Papua New Guinea, at a depth of 63 kilometers (40 miles).

  • No immediate reports of damage or tsunami waves were reported from the area

  • Nine days back, Nepal had witnessed 7.9 magnitude quake that had jolted whole country leaving more than 7000 people dead.
