Blast in Syrian town on Turkish border kills nearly 50

Syria blast

Los Angeles : A car bomb blast on Saturday rocked the rebel-held Syrian city along the Turkish border. The explosion killed nearly 50 people and damaged buildings leaving rescuers scrambling to find survivors amid the wreckage.

According to rescuers and doctors, the explosion was so large that nearly 100 people suffered the burns, who were transported to the Turkish border town of Kilis for treatment.

Nobody has claimed the deadliest attack yet.

Eyewitness claim that a rigged tanker caused the explosion. Some have also blamed Islamic State militants, who have carried out attacks in the town before.

The activist-operated local Azaz Media center and Shabha Press put the death toll at 60, adding that search and rescue operations continued for hours after the explosion.

Recently, the militant group has been trying to widen their control over the region and have escalated its attacks against Turkey which backs Syrian opposition fighters in a campaign against the group in northern Syria.
