Dhaka : No less than four people lost their lives in protests in Bangladesh's Chittagong on Friday as police fired rubber bullets to control people protesting against the visit of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, a police official said.

"We had to fire teargas and rubber bullets to disperse them as they entered a police station and carried out extensive vandalism," Rafiqul Islam, the police official told Reuters, referring to protesters

Dozens of people, including two journalists, have reportedly been injured in the protests which flared in the capital Dhaka.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is on a two-day visit to Bangladesh and took part in its 50th year of Independence celebrations.

He paid tribute to Bangladesh's Father of the Nation Sheikh Mujibur Rahman by wearing a "Mujib Jacket". President Abdul Hamid and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina were also present at the event held at the National Parade Ground in Dhaka.
