Joe Biden blames Donald Trump for violence in US Capitol

New Delhi : President-elect Joe Biden on Thursday blamed Donald Trump for the violence at US Capitol by his supporters, whom he tagged as 'domestic terrorists'.

The riot-like situation was caused after pro-Trump protesters tried to storm the US Capitol to overturn the US Election results.

Those who tried to disrupt a joint session of Congress that was certifying Biden’s election victory over Trump “weren’t protesters. Don’t dare call them protesters. They were a riotous mob — insurrectionists, domestic terrorists. It’s that basic,” Biden said.

He also blamed Donald Trump of assaulting the institutions which take care of democracy in the United States.

“In the past four years, we’ve had a president who’s made his contempt for our democracy, our Constitution, the rule of law clear in everything he has done,” Biden said. “He unleashed an all-out assault on our institutions of our democracy from the outset. And yesterday was the culmination of that unrelenting attack.”

Later in the day, Joe Biden was officially confirmed as the next President of the United States. Meanwhile, social media platforms like Facebook, Twitter and YouTube imposed a temporary ban on Donald Trump's account after his videos and tweets were found to be violating their guidelines.
