Nepal Floods: At least 359 people dead, over 1000 missing

Kathmandu : In a horrific flash floods at Bhote Koshi River area on August 26, Nepal was left devastated and most of the low lying regions in mud. As per reports, at least 389 people have lost their lives in the natural disaster; over 1000 people are also reported missing. The rescue teams have initiated the operations to save the lives affected from the flash floods.

So far, 359 bodies have been recovered from the river areas, while many people, both locals and tourists, are still missing. According to the latest available information, 596 people from 33 countries are still missing.

The government of Nepal has also launched a relief fund where anyone can contribute to help the rescue operations. Contributions for these efforts can be made through the link: https://pmdrf.nchl.com.np/.

As per report released by the Govt. of Nepal, several tourists from different countries were also affected and missing. From India, about 178 people had gone missing; the authorities managed to rescue 11, meanwhile 167 are still missing. A total of 627 foreign nationals had gone missing.

Govt. of India, on the other hand, is also keeping a track of their missing nationals and is providing all possible assistance to the neighbouring nation at this time of crisis.

The flood surged through the Bhote Koshi River, reportedly coming from the direction of Tibet. Videos of the disaster showed people running before the floodwaters swallowed them up and washed out buildings and bridges.

The sudden rise in water caused widespread destruction in Timure in the Rasuwa district and the nearby Syafrubesi area, the Nepal Army said in a statement. The Prime Minister's Office has said that Nepal Army, Armed Police Force, and Nepal Police personnel have been deployed in Rasuwa and surrounding areas to intensify efforts for rescue and relief activities in view of the devastating flood.
