One dead, 15 injured in grenade attack in Srinagar vegetable market

Srinagar : One person was killed and at least 15 were injured in a grenade attack at a vegetable market in Srinagar on Monday afternoon, said police. This happens to be the third grenade attack in last two weeks in Jammu and Kashmir.

The blast took place at 1:20 PM at the vegetable market in Hari Singh High Street in the centre of the city; the injured have been taken to the nearby hospitals, two of them are critical.

According to a report, the terrorists targeted roadside vendors as markets remains shut in the city amid restrictions. The area has been cordoned off for now.

Today's blast comes a week after 15 civilians were injured in a similar attack in Sopore town of north Kashmir. Several civilians were targeted when they were waiting at a bus stand.

The blasts are being reported even after the security personnel have been on a high alert ever since the government scrapped Jammu and Kashmir's special status under Article 370 through a presidential order on August 5.

The state was formally bifurcated into two union territories -- Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh -- on October 31.
