Pakistan to invite PM Narendra Modi for SAARC summit

New Delhi : Pakistan foreign office spokesperson on Wednesday said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi will be invited for the upcoming SAARC summit; India had boycotted the event in 2016 citing "cross-border terror attacks".

India's decision to skip the Summit in 2016 was a part of global campaign to isolate Pakistan after four terrorists attacked Indian Army base camp in Uri. A total of 18 soldiers were martyred in the heinous attack.

This September, after a soldier and three policemen were killed in Jammu and Kashmir, India turned down Pakistan's request for a meeting between foreign ministers.

"I would like to stress that meetings, including high-level ones, can only be effective if expressions of resolve are translated into concrete action on the ground," Indian foreign minister Sushma Swaraj had said at a meeting of SAARC ministers on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly.

Recently, a terror attack has been reported in Punjab's Amritsar where a grenade attack killed 3 people at the prayer hall.
