'Pink star' diamond sets new auction record: Check previous records

New Delhi : 'Pink star' diamond has set a new record with its winning auction bid of $71mn in Hong Kong, beating Oppenheimer Blue which used to claim the top spot. Here are previous bids which had created records:

Oppenheimer Blue: In May 2016, this large diamond had attracted the auction bid of $50.6m (£34.7m at the exchange rate then current).

Blue Moon: A 12.03-carat ring-mounted blue diamond was sold for a whopping price of $48.4m (£31.7m) for the cushion-shaped stone by Hong Kong tycoon Joseph Lau in November 2015.

Sunrise Ruby: A 25.59-carat "pigeon blood" coloured gemstone was sold to an unknown buyer for $30m (£19.1m) in May 2015.

Orange diamond: The gemstone was sold for $35m (£22m), or $2.4m (£1.5m) per carat in November 2013.

Graff Pink: A 24.78-carat "fancy intense pink" stone was sold to the well-known British dealer Laurence Graff for $46.2m (£29m) in November 2010.
