US-Bangla passenger plane crashes in Nepal, many feared dead

Kathmandu : A plane has reportedly crashed near Tribhuvan International Airport in Kathmandu, many people are feared dead in the accident.

Victims' bodies have been recovered from the wreckage, an official said. "We just pulled out dead bodies and injured from the debris," government spokesman Narayan Prasad Duwadi told AFP.

Operated by US-Bangla, a Bangladeshi airline, the plane veered off the runway while landing on Monday afternoon.

According to initial reports, rescue operation has started with firefighters setting blaze off from the aircraft that was carrying nearly 67 passengers on board.

"There were 67 passengers and 4 crew members" aboard the plane, said airport spokesman Prem Nath Thakur.

Photos and video posted on social media showed smoke rising from an airport runway.

The passenger aircraft has been identified as S2-AGU, a Bombardier Dash 8 Q400, but this has not been officially confirmed.
