New Delhi : Army Commanders Conference in New Delhi showcased retrofitted Electric Gypsies in a brand new electric avatar. These electric vehicles have been converted from older Military Gypsies as part of a joint project between the Indian Army Cell, IIT-Delhi, and a startup named Tadpole Projects. The ACC, which is once in every two years, serves as an institutional platform for conceptual-level discussions that lead to critical policy decisions for the Indian Army.

With the current popularity of electric cars (EVs), nearly all automakers worldwide have introduced electric vehicles. However, the fate of existing Internal Combustion (IC) automobiles on the road and older vehicles designed for these engines is a pressing issue. Tadpole Projects sees an opportunity to address this challenge.

Tadpole Projects was established by Jawaad Khan in 2020, the firm specializes in EV retrofitting.

According to national motor vehicle laws, a personal car can be operated for up to 15 years. After this point, it is believed that these cars would contribute more to environmental pollution compared to brand-new cars. In 2015, the National Green Tribunal, an organization dedicated to environmental protection, declared that diesel vehicles older than 10 years should not be allowed on Delhi-NCR highways due to their harmful emissions.

Till date, Tadpole Projects has converted 15 vehicles to electric kits, including luxury, vintage, passenger, and logistic vehicles, allowing their owners to evade this requirement. The company is also currently working on converting heavy-duty trucks.

As a part of their latest transformation, Tadpole Projects has modified old Military Gypsies into EVs, which is an impressive accomplishment.
