Delhi : At a South African event, Mahindra unveiled the eagerly anticipated Thar.e electric SUV concept, which previews a five-door electric version of the traditional off-roader. This model, set to appear in 2025, will be a significant offering from the domestic automaker. The Mahindra Thar.e concept-derived electric SUV will play a significant role in the automaker's Born Electric product lineup when it goes on sale. Born Electric is expected to include several other models, in addition to the electric SUV, as was previously hinted at by numerous interesting electric concept cars. Despite having the first-mover advantage in the Indian market for electric cars, Mahindra has lost ground over time.

However, Mahindra is once more focusing on the market due to the renewed and expanding attention being paid to electric vehicles. This time, the manufacturer is getting ready to launch a broad selection of Born Electric items. The business had revealed a number of EV prototypes that would eventually become production-ready cars. The most recent addition to that list is the Thar.e SUV, which offers a sneak peek at an all-electric version of the enormously well-liked Mahindra Thar.

Mahindra Thar.e concept: Design

Mahindra Thar.e concept has a boxy appearance that immediately attracts notice. The EV concept looks tough and aggressive from every angle, which is consistent with the SUV's traditional true-blue off-roader persona. The concept car has a flat front with distinctive LED headlamp decals. It has a substantial skid plate on the front, and the higher ground clearance is also apparent.

When viewed from the side, the SUV has a sculptural appearance due to its sharp creases, protruding wheel housings, heavy black cladding, and sizable offroad-spec wheels and tyres. The EV idea has a five-door layout as opposed to the Thar's three-door design, which is powered by an internal combustion engine. A spare wheel is installed in the middle of the tailgate on the SUV's rear profile. Other prominent design features on the SUV's rear are the skid plate and square LED taillights.

Mahindra has not provided any information regarding the interior of the Thar.e but has stated that it would include recyclable uncoated plastics and 50% recycled PET.

Mahindra Thar.e concept: Platform and dimension

The INGLO-P1 EV architecture serves as the foundation for the Mahindra Thar.e concept. The EV will be built on the skateboard architecture, unlike the present Thar, which is based on a ladder-on-frame chassis. According to Mahindra, this platform was created to have a greater operating range thanks to larger batteries and lighter cars. Wheelbase measurements for the concept range from 2,776 to 2,976 mm. Additionally, the electric SUV promises to be able to handle uneven roads with ease thanks to its approximately 300 mm of ground clearance.

Mahindra Thar.e concept: Specification

The battery and electric powertrain specifications for the Mahindra Thar.e electric SUV concept are yet unknown. Expect it to be equipped with a 60 kWh battery pack that will supply power to two motors mounted on each axle, which will drive all four wheels. It is anticipated to include a 4X4 drivetrain.
