Mercedes GLC 2023 variants, engine options and features explained
Delhi : On Wednesday, the redesigned Mercedes-Benz GLC was formally unveiled in India with an ex-showroom starting price of 73.50 lakh. Given that the first generation model of the Mercedes GLC sold more than 13,000 copies in the nation, the second generation model is still carrying the burden of some enormous expectations.
With up to 26 lakh units sold since it began selling internationally in 2016, the GLC has been a tremendously successful model for Mercedes-Benz all over the world. The Mercedes GLC offers the same level of luxury for which the German brand is renowned while benefiting from a sporty exterior design and a fully filled interior.
The second-generation Mercedes GLC comes with the possible promise of a further boost in popularity that leads to improved sales. The GLC is positioned between the GLA and the GLE SUVs from Mercedes.
Mercedes GLC: Exterior Highlights
The GLC now has an extended wheelbase and is marginally longer. This results in additional interior space for the backseat of the car. The SUV's face now has more streamlined LED lighting modules that blend seamlessly into the front radiator grille. At the bottom, there is an under guard that has been chromed.
While the character lines and wheelarches on the 19-inch wheels have undergone an upgrade, they are still very similar to those on the previous model. The GLC has modified tail lights with a 3D effect in the back. The same under guard is present here as well, finished in a chrome finish.
Mercedes GLC: Cabin Highlights
The GLC's interior is exactly like that of the most recent C-Class car. There has a vertically oriented 11.9-inch main infotainment screen. It now boasts Mercedes' newest telematics, which also supports wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. Three different upholstery colors are available, and all of the seats are generally well-made with lots of cushioning and support.
Ambient lighting is installed, and there is a wide panoramic sunroof on top for aesthetic purposes. A 15-speaker Burmester audio system is also included with the GLC.
Mercedes GLC: Powertrain and Transmission
Both gasoline and diesel engine options are still available for the new GLC. The former has a maximum torque of 600 Nm and a combined power output of 280 horsepower. The diesel variant has 640 Nm of torque and 220 horsepower. The Mercedes GLC has a 9G TRONIC gearbox for transmission, and the petrol version accelerates from 0 to 100 kmph in 6.2 seconds while the diesel version needs eight seconds.
Mercedes GLC vs rivals
With the Mercedes GLC, competitors like the BMW X3, Audi Q5, and Land Rover Discovery Sport are once again in the mix. The Volvo XC60 is another competitor.
