No diesel variant for new Suzuki Jimny

New Delhi : Suzuki has officially revealed details about its upcoming new Jimny small SUV. As reported earlier, the mini SUV will be launched with a 660-cc petrol engine for Japan and a larger 1.5-litre K15B petrol engine will go under the hood for cars to be sold in markets outside Japan, including Europe.

The transmission choices will come with a four-speed automatic and a five-speed manual for 1.5 litre transmission. With Suzuki banning diesel engines in European markets it is more likely that Jimny will not be getting a diesel variant.

The larger-engined Jimny is expected to come with a top speed of 144kph. The new Jimny comes with a part-time four-wheel drive system with high and low-range modes, though it channels power to the rear wheels in standard form.

As per company's claims, the car is a perfect offroader and mountain car as it can easily climb up inclines with a 37deg approach angle and a 49deg departure angle. It also comes with a good ground clearance of 210mm.

The interiors of the car have been given modern touch with a 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Bluetooth. However, the overall design remains chunky, with function favoured over form, to enable users to operate controls and buttons even while wearing gloves.

In terms of safety, the car includes automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning and traffic sign detection, the latter being a first for any Suzuki model.

Ever since its official announcement, the Suzuki Jimny has generated a lot of buzz in India. There is no news of an India launch for this already popular SUV.
