Delhi : The Pininfarina Battista made a big impression on its first trip to India, when it broke two world records and cemented its title as the vehicle with the quickest road-legal acceleration.

The Italian EV broke the previous local record of 332 km/h (200 mph), which was also held by Autocar India, by running a 1/4-mile sprint in 8.55 seconds and a 1/2-mile test in 13.38 seconds. It also reached a top speed of 358.03 km/h (222.46 mph), making it the fastest production car to ever travel on Indian soil.

Hormazd Sorabjee drove the Italian electric supercar that established the two new world records at Indore's Natrax facility, and Renuka Kirpalani achieved the country's fastest woman status by reaching a high speed of 357.1 km/h (221.89 mph).

During the fastest laps, the Pininfarina Battista ran on Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 tyres, while the 1/4- and 1/2-mile runs were completed on Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2R rubber, all of which may be ordered when purchasing a Battista.

Pininfarina's all-electric hyper GT first gained attention in November 2022 when the Italian manufacturer revealed its astounding acceleration and braking figures: 1.79 seconds for the 0-60 mph (0-96 km/h) sprint and a complete stop from 62 mph (100 km/h) in just 101.7 feet (31 metres), making it the world's fastest accelerating road-legal car and the fastest braking EV.

Today, the CEO of the business said the following when the Battista made its debut in India:

"This year's new Battista owners are eager to discover the exceptional performance of this wonder of engineering and design. These speed records, together with independent testing, have confirmed our desire to develop a new generation of ultra-luxury vehicles, starting with the Battista, that utilise electric power to achieve performance that is incomparably superior to that of ICE powertrains.

The Pininfarina Battista, based on the Rimac Nevera, is the most potent automobile ever produced in Italy. Its quad-motor electric powertrain generates 1,417 kilowatts (1,900 horsepower) and 1,725 pound-feet (2,340 Newton-meters) of torque, and its 120 kilowatt-hour battery pack provides a WLTP-cycle range of up to 295 miles (476 km).

Just 150 models, each starting at $2.34 million, will be painstakingly hand-made at the company's atelier in Cambiano, Italy.
