A couple of weeks ago, Tata's Altroz had made headlines for its safety ratings after it received full marks, making it the first hatchback with five star safety ratings in India.

It is also India's second car which has secured five star rating from the NCAP. Before this Tata Nexon had got the same ratings.

The Altroz is offered with two BS6-compliant engine options, a 1.2-litre petrol motor which produces 86hp and 113Nm and a 1.5-litre diesel engine which makes 90hp and 200Nm of torque. Both diesel and petrol versions of the car will be available with manual transmission and the company has not said anything about the launch of automatic version of the car anytime soon.

Tata Altroz will be facing a direct competition with likes of Maruti Suzuki Baleno, Hyundai i20 and Honda Jazz among others which are priced between ₹5.45 lakh and ₹9.34 lakh(ex-showroom Delhi).

Inspired by the albatross, the Altroz will be the first product to be engineered on Tata Motors' new ALFA (Agile Light Flexible Advanced) architecture.
