Delhi : The manufacturer claims that the new Hilux Hybrid 48V improves both on- and off-road driving capabilities and fuel efficiency / driving performance. Additionally, according to Toyota, the mild-hybrid technology enhances throttle response and linear acceleration, provides better acceleration on rocky terrain, and allows for regenerative braking on downward slopes.

With the mild-hybrid model, the company keeps the 3,500 kg towing capability and 1,025 kg payload capacity of the Hilux. For the European market, it is manufactured in Thailand under the name Toyota Hilux MHEV. The 48-volt mild hybrid system consists of a conventional 2.8L four-cylinder diesel engine and an electric motor.

Its 700 mm water wading depth and lack of additional visual alterations from the standard model are its only differences. The Land Cruiser Prado and Fortuner both use the same diesel mill. Given its popularity in India, the Fortuner will be the next in line to receive this technology, and we may expect its arrival as early as next year. The Hilux and Fortuner are both available for purchase in India, so it would be fascinating to see which model is the first to receive the 48-volt mild hybrid option. There have long been rumors that Toyota is also developing the next Fortuner.
