Delhi : Volkswagen Passenger Cars India has unveiled the GT DSG variant of its Virtus sedan, priced at ₹16.19 lakh (ex-showroom). Despite the competitive landscape of the Indian car market, the Virtus has successfully established its presence since its official launch in June 2022.

Impressive Performance and Efficiency

The Virtus GT with DSG packs a punch with 148 bhp and peak torque of 250 Nm, positioning itself as one of the most powerful offerings in its sedan segment. Additionally, Volkswagen claims an impressive fuel efficiency of 19.62 kmpl, certified by ARAI.

Variants and TSI Technology

The Volkswagen Virtus is available in two primary variants: the Dynamic and Performance Line. Both variants are powered by Volkswagen's TSI technology, known for its performance and efficiency. The Dynamic variant features a 1.0-litre TSI engine, offering 111 hp power output and 178 Nm maximum torque, paired with a choice of either a six-speed manual or six-speed automatic torque. On the other hand, the Performance Line comes equipped with a 1.5-litre TSI EVO engine featuring Active Cylinder Technology (ACT) and mated to a seven-speed DSG transmission.

Challenges in the Sedan Segment

While the sedan segment in India has faced declining demand recently, the emergence of models like Skoda Slavia and Volkswagen Virtus has reignited interest. Other players like Hyundai, with its updated Verna, and Honda, with the latest City model featuring ADAS, have also contributed to the competition. Additionally, Maruti Suzuki's Ciaz remains another contender in this challenging market space.
