Amazon set to shut-down 'Prime Now' application, shift services to main app

New Delhi : Amazon has decided to shut down is recently launched 'Prime Now' two-hour grocery delivery service after it failed to perform as per expectations, said a report.

The service was launched in 2016 with high hopes but the response did not fall as per expectations and turned out to be a non-performing asset for the company. The services will be merged on the main application.

'Prime Now' recorded over 10-million downloads on Google Play. Although Apple doesn't release the number of downloads on the App Store, the Prime Now app has received only 327 ratings, suggesting far fewer downloads on iOS.

It has been learned that the service will be integrated on the main application with the name 'Amazon Fresh'. Launched last year, the services were limited to only Bengaluru, however, it has now been extended to six more cities.

One of the Amazon official, who did not wish to be named, said that this was in plan for an year and it was likely that the company would had made an official announcement somewhere around this time. But, due to the ongoing coronavirus outbreak, the notice has been delayed.

In addition to the latest change for Prime Now, Amazon also recently updated its India app. The company has also started warning users that the support for the global app is being discontinued, and that they should instead switch to the new Amazon India Shopping app, which includes features like UPI, and money transfers.

The history of the users will automatically be transferred to the new app, the company notified.
