New Delhi : The famous leader of Indian industry and aviation, Vijaypat Singhania has passed away. The former chairman of Raymond Group and a Padma Bhushan awardee died on Saturday evening in Mumbai at the age of 87. His son, Gautam Singhania, confirmed the news on social media with a brief message, “Om Shanti.”

On Sunday afternoon, a large number of people gathered at his ‘Haveli’ residence in Mumbai to pay their last respects. The family remembered him with the Bhagavad Gita verse, “Karmanye vadhikaraste ma phaleshu kadachana,” saying his life will continue to inspire future generations. His last rites were performed at Chandanwadi crematorium at 3:00 PM.

A journey from business to the skies

Born in the 1930s, Vijaypat Singhania not only transformed Raymond into a global name in the textile industry but also served public life as the Sheriff of Bombay. However, his identity went beyond business. He was also a passionate aviator and held the rank of Air Commodore.

He set several aviation records, including a world record for reaching the highest altitude in a hot air balloon. He often said that while business runs on the ground, dreams take flight in the sky.

Legacy and challenges

In 2000, he handed over the leadership of the company to his son Gautam and transferred his entire 37% stake to him. In later years, reports of legal disputes between father and son surfaced, but these differences were eventually resolved amicably.

As he bids farewell to the world, he leaves behind a powerful legacy—an empire built through hard work and a spirit that dared to rise above the clouds.
