Mumbai : Minutes after Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman announced a relief package for the poor section of India, a social media post attributing Reliance Jio claimed that the telecom company is offering free recharge of Rs 498 as India reels under tough time.

Before you fall for it, the social media post and claim are both fake and do not have any official confirmation attached to it.

Many people on WhatsApp have shared a link claiming that by clicking on it, people will get Rs 498 as free recharge.

One of the social media users claims in Hindi that translates to, At this time of crisis, Jio is offering a free recharge of Rs 498. Click the link below to get the free recharge done. The offer is valid till 31st March.



Several people were seen sharing similar messages with a similar claim.



After doing extensive research, it has been found that all claims of free recharges made in the messages are not correct.

Though Jio has taken a few initiatives and started a campaign as to how to fight novel coronavirus, it has nothing to do with this claim.

Reliance Jio also replied to one of the posts on social media to debunk all the free recharge claims made via social media posts.
