Nykaa founder becomes India's wealthiest self-made female billionaire

New Delhi : Falguni Nayar has become India’s wealthiest self-made female billionaire of India with her beauty startup making a dream debut in the share market. 

Nayar, who owns about half of Nykaa, now has a net worth of $6.5 billion as shares of the firm surged as much as 89% when they started trading Wednesday. 

FSN E-Commerce Ventures, Nykaa's parent entity, is India's first woman-led unicorn to hit the stock exchange. It priced its initial public offering at the top end of a marketed range, raising 53.5 billion rupees ($722 million). The stock was up 78% as of 10:36 a.m. in Mumbai. 

Nykaa was founded by former investment banker Falguni Nayar who in past was Managing Director of Kotak Mahindra Capital Company. She is currently on board of Aviva Insurance, Dabur India and as an independent member on the Tata Motors Board.

The company was started in 2012.
