Reliance Jio set to increase call, data tariffs in coming days

New Delhi : Bharti Airtel, Vodafone Idea Limited announced that it will change its tariffs from December 1, most likely in upward direction. A day after Reliance Jio has also revealed that it is planning to increase call and data tariffs in coming weeks.

Speaking about it, Reliance Jio said that TRAI has been in consultation for revision in the tariffs.

Reliance Jio in a statement said it would carry out an "appropriate" increase in tariffs which "does not adversely impact data consumption or growth in digital adoption and sustains investments".

"Like other operators, we will also work with the government and comply with the regulatory regime to strengthen the industry to benefit Indian consumers and take measures including appropriate increase in tariffs in next few weeks in a manner that does not adversely impact data consumption or growth in digital adoption and sustains investments," Jio said.

TRAI has been bringing the new change in the rules to ensure financial survival of the telecom sector after two major companies – VIL and Bharti Airtel – posted a combined loss of Rs 74000 crore in September 2019.
