Sensex crosses 32,000-mark for the first time, Nifty touches new high at 9878.50

New Delhi : The Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) Sensex on Thursday breached 32,000 marks for the first time in history. The opening trade, Sensex crossed to an all-time high of 32020 points. Nifty also scaled to new heights with 9878.50 in the opening session.

According to a report by Economic Times, a dip in retail inflation has been quoted as the reason behind such jump in the market. Another factor could be that the United States Federal Reserve chair Janet Yellen told the US Congress that there might be slower-than-expected rate hikes.

Hang Seng, Nikkei, and Shanghai were also trading higher.

The Sensex has been doing good in the hopes of India’s proposed financial and institutional reforms including the Goods and Services Tax. The Sensex closed at 30,133.35 in April– the first time above 30,000 level. In May, the Sensex had hit the 31000 level.
