New Delhi : Amazon, the global online retailer have announced a strict return policy 'no questions asked', exclusive for those customers who return parcels quite often. Amazon USA has started interrogating customers over returned items and has even banned accounts from which even 10% of ordered items were returned, according to a report in The Wall Street Journal.

Earlier, customers can return purchased item within 30 days without giving an explanation. This policy secured disputes with couriers, sellers and manufacturers over defective or unsuitable goods. But, the policy has changed and customers need to think twice and thrice before returning the courier.

A number of customers have mentioned on Twitter that Amazon has permanently shut down their accounts without any warning messages.

“We want everyone to be able to use Amazon, but there are rare occasions where someone abuses our service over an extended period of time,” “We want everyone to be able to use Amazon, but there are rare occasions where someone abuses our service over an extended period of time,” an Amazon spokesman said. “We never take these decisions lightly, but with over 300 million customers around the world, we take action when appropriate to protect the experience for all our customers.”

A customer, Nir Nissim, told Wall Street Journal that his account was suddenly shut down after he returned a computer drive earlier this year and four items last year. He received an email from Amazon that read: “You cannot open a new account or use another account to place orders on our site,” but did not explain that his account closure had been trigged by too many returns. This was especially troubling because he had an unused $450 gift card to Amazon, according to WSJ.

When he contacted the Amazon customer, he was told it was because he had made too many returns. It was only after he directly emailed Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos, they agreed to reactive his Amazon account.
