New Delhi : The demand for journalists with excellent writing and communication skills has increased owing to the enhanced need for media in the information society of the present times. Today it is important for journalists to be trained in different aspects of the profession. Keeping in mind the growing demand for professional training, from the current academic year 2017-18, the B.A Honors program in Journalism is now being offered by the Institute of Home Economics (IHE), a premier college of the University of Delhi involved in imparting quality education to women for over fifty years and recently accredited with Grade ‘A’ by NAAC.

The program is already being offered by five colleges of Delhi University. The course will be offered by the Department of Development Communication and Extension at IHE which has considerable experience of running similar courses.  

Dr. Savita Aggarwal, Head of the Department said that the college has a very well qualified and experienced faculty from varied fields of Development communication, Journalism and Mass Communication.  

The department also has a state-of-the-art audio studio to undertake radio production and a media lab for undertaking project work in video and print media production. 

The syllabus incorporates all aspects of news reporting, photography, print and electronic journalism to open numerous possibilities for a fruitful career in the expanding media industry. 

Besides training students in reporting, writing and editing for various media, it also sensitizes students to cultural, environmental, gender and development issues to make media more contextual and relevant to people. The enrolled students will also be provided opportunities of internship with diverse organizations.

BA Journalism is very suitable course for students desirous of pursuing a career in print, broadcast or new media. The course is open to students who have passed XII with minimum 45% from Science, Arts and Commerce streams. 

The college will accept 46 students under this course. On completion of the course, the students can either get placements in the media and allied industries either through the college placement cell or through the centralized placement cell of the University of Delhi.  

The students can also opt for specialization at Master’s level in Mass communication, Development Communication, Media and Governance, Convergence journalism to name a few. They can also opt for Diploma courses in Advertising and Public Relations, Print and Broadcast journalism.
