Actor Jeetendra dubs sexual assault claims as 'baseless and ridiculous'

New Delhi : Veteran actor Jeetendra Kumar has dubbed sexual assault claims by a cousin as 'baseless and ridiculous', his lawyer Rizwan Siddiquee issued a statement.

The statement read, "Foremost, my client specifically and categorically denies any such incident. Besides even otherwise such baseless, ridiculous and fabricated claims cannot be entertained by any court of law or the law enforcement agencies after a span of almost 50 years".

Siddiquee also said that the law did not give liberty to anyone to defame a public figure with no valid proof.

The statement further noted, "The statute has provided a justice delivery system through the courts, and the Limitation Act 1963 was specifically enacted to ensure that all genuine complaints are made within a maximum time limit of three years so that a proper investigation is carried out and timely justice is delivered".

The complaint was mailed to DGP of Himachal Pradesh as she claimed that the incident had happened in Shimla in January 1971.

The FIR was not registered in the matter as it is mandatory for the complainant to sign the copy of FIR.

The allegations came amidst the '#MeToo' campaign as a part of which women in Hollywood have come forward and spoken about facing sexual assault at the hands of industry men.

When and how did the assault happen?

As per complaint made in the e-mail, Jeetendra was 28 and his cousin was 18; he fixed her for a shooting schedule in Shimla. Later, he sexually assaulted her. However, no evidence or proof has been attached to the complaint.
