Filmmaker Mahesh Bhatt receives extortion call, cops intervene

New Delhi : Veteran filmmaker Mahesh Bhatt on Wednesday received an extortion call from an unidentified number, threatening to harm his family if the demands are not fulfilled. Maharashtra Police stepped in after being notified the issue and resolved it.
Mahesh Bhatt shared the information via tweet - "A bolt from the blue in the form of an extortion call and threat to my family was nipped in the bud by the Maharashtra and UP police in tandem. Gratitude."

According to news agency IANS, Mahesh Bhatt received calls from an unidentified number asking for a hefty sum of Rs 50 lakhs, also threatening himto kill his daughter-actress Alia and wife Soni Razdan, if he didn't pay the demanded amount.
