'Kalank' long-weekend Box office report: Performance 40% below expectations

New Delhi : Despite getting a start every movie hopes, 'Kalank' failed to keep up with it and its business on Box Office dropped insanely from the second day of its release. With a humongous cast and mixed reviews, the film managed to gather a decent figure but it was around 40% less than what was expected before its release.

Released on Wednesday, it was expected that 'Kalank' will break all records of 2019 and will cross Rs 100 crore mark with an ease. With an opening of Rs 21.60 crores, it looked like the predictions will soon turn into reality. But, people rejected the movie, tagging it as 'just a glitter on screen', and it showed on its Box Office numbers too.

As shared by trade analyst Taran Adarsh, Kalank’s box office collection at the end of day 4 (Saturday) was Rs 54.40 in the domestic market. On Sunday, he tweeted, “#Kalank is clearly underperforming... Dips on Day 4 [Sat]... Trending is weak, so big biz on Day 5 [Sun] is ruled out... Wed 21.60 cr, Thu 11.45 cr, Fri 11.60 cr, Sat 9.75 cr. Total: Rs 54.40 cr. India biz.”

By the end of the weekend, the film's total collection was Rs 62.50 crores in the domestic market. On the other hand, the film managed to do a good business in the international markets.

Taran Adarsh tweeted, "#Kalank continues its strong run in the international arena... Wed to Sat total: $ 3.950 mn [Rs 27.43 cr]... Day 1: $ 740k Day 2: $ 910k Day 3: $ 1.2 mn Day 4: $ 1.1 mn | Key markets... USA+Canada: $ 1.42 mn UK: £ 483k UAE+GCC: $ 950k Australia: A$ 522k #Overseas."

Directed by Abhishek Varman, the film stars Varun Dhawan, Alia Bhatt, Madhuri Dixit, Sanjay Dutt, Sonakshi Sinha and Aditya Roy Kapoor in prominent roles.
