Kesari Box Office Weekend collection: Akshay Kumar's movie earns over 78 crores

New Delhi : Akshay Kumar's latest release Kesari ended its opening weekend collection at Rs 78.07 crore. The film earned Rs 21.51 crore on Sunday, taking the total to little less than Rs 80 crore.

With rage reviews from the critics and people, it was expected that the film would cross Rs 100 crore mark like a breeze in a four-day extended weekend. It started its journey with a remarkable 21.06 crores on an opening day, this is also the highest by a Bollywood movie this year.

The slow down in the movie collection can also be blamed on the start of Indian Premier League that filtered out viewers.

Trade analyst Taran Adarsh shared the latest Box Office breakup of Kesari. He took to Twitter and wrote, “#Kesari puts up an impressive total… North circuits are superb… While the 4-day total is good, the biz on Sat and Sun should’ve been higher, since the word of mouth is excellent… Thu 21.06 cr, Fri 16.75 cr, Sat 18.75 cr, Sun 21.51 cr. Total: ₹ 78.07 cr. India biz.” (sic)

He also mentioned the role of the IPL in causing below-than-expected growth. His tweet read, “Section of the industry feels #IPL2019 curtailed the growth of #Kesari on Sat [evening] and Sun… Two days that could’ve made a biggg difference to the *extended* weekend total… Weekdays pivotal… Strong numbers and solid trending [Mon-Thu] are a must.” (sic)

Kesari is based on the real-life story of the epic Battle Of Saragarhi that was fought between 21 Sikh soldiers under British army and around 10000 Afghan troopers. The battle is considered as one of the bravest last stands in the world’s history.

Produced by Dharma Productions and Sajid Nadiadwala’s Nadiadwala Grandsons Entertainment, the film also stars Parineeti Chopra in the lead role.
