Padmaavat Box Office Collection Day 1: Sanjay Leela Bhansali's movie earns Rs 18 crore
New Delhi : Sanjay Leela Bhansali's Padmaavat movie based on Malik Muhammad Jayasi's poem released amid widespread protests around cinema halls by various fringe outfits in Haryana, Rajasthan, Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh and Maharashtra, Padmaavat had released in the theaters on January 25 and it has collected Rs 18 crore one its opening day.
In several places where it was allowed to be screened, Bhansali's directorial venture saw an excellent opening of around 50 to 55 percent. On Day 1, it earned Rs 18 crore domestically, according to BoxOfficeIndia.com. However, had it been able to open as a clean release, it could have gained Rs 26-27 crore nett.
Despite non-screening in few states and protests/disturbances, #Padmaavat fares VERY WELL on Day 1... Had it been a peaceful/smooth all-India release, the biz would’ve touched ₹ 28 / ₹ 30 cr... Wed [limited preview screenings] 5 cr, Thu 19 cr. Total: ₹ 24 cr. India biz.

Padmaavat has done excellent business in Mumbai (Rs 7 crore) and Nizam (Rs 2.25 crore) circuits with fans coming out in large numbers to support the film. In Delhi/Uttar Pradesh, however, it earned only Rs 3 crore, which though in absolute terms is more than Nizam circuit, is far less than its potential, according to BoxOfficeIndia.com.
