Shahid Kapoor to play Dingko Singh; netizens demands a Northeastern actor

New Delhi : Actor Shahid Kapoor has been confirmed to play the character of former boxing champion and Asian Games gold medallist Dingko Singh alive on celluloid. But, there are people who are not happy with the news and want someone from North East to play the character.

Several netizens have raised the demand on social media claiming that Bollywood is not doing justice by bringing famed actors to play the characters of real heroes of India. Earlier, Priyanka Chopra was criticised for portraying five-time world champion and Olympic bronze medallist Mary Kom in the sporting legend's biopic.

A Facebook user shared his views on Facebook and wrote: "Can we change this sh**? Like can we for once have a northeastern actor play the damn northeastern characters?! Seriously???! Cause we for sure can't play a punjabi! (sic)."

Meanwhile, Shahid is extremely excited to be playing Dingko Singh. "His life story is unbelievably crazy; it is very human and extremely inspiring. Such amazing stories of heroes need to be told," he told a leading daily.
