Tanhaji vs Chhapaak Box Office collection: Ajay Devgn stays way ahead of Deepika Padukone
New Delhi : Ajay Devgn's 100th movie of the career Tanhaji: The Unsung Warrior is soaring high on the Box Office numbers. The film collected over Rs 20.50 crores on Day 2 of its release. On its opening day, the film had garnered Rs 15.10 crore, taking its total collections to Rs 35.67 crore. The film is specially doing great in Maharashtra; it appears like the film will easily collect Rs 50 crores by the end of the weekend.
Meanwhile, Deepika Padukone's 'Chhapaak' released with Ajay Degn's movie and has managed to do mediocre business. Chhappak earned Rs 6.90 crore on Saturday taking its total to Rs 11.67 crore in two days.
While if we talk about profits and losses, Tanhaji is a big budget movie with costly VFX and breathtaking action sequences, Chhapaak stays low budget with main investment on the star cast. Ajay plays Maratha warrior Tanhaji Malusare and Kajol plays his wife Savitribai Malusare. Saif Ali Khan plays the antagonist Udaybhan.
#Tanhaji roars on Day 2... Metros *and* mass belt, multiplexes *and* single screens, #Tanhaji is simply remarkable... #Maharashtra is record-smashing... Other circuits - decent on Day 1 - join the celebrations on Day 2... Fri 15.10 cr, Sat 20.57 cr. Total: ₹ 35.67 cr. #India biz

#Chhapaak witnesses an upward trend on Day 2, but the 2-day total is underwhelming... Decent at premium multiplexes, but unable to connect *and* collect beyond metros... Needs to cover lost ground on Day 3... Fri 4.77 cr, Sat 6.90 cr. Total: ₹ 11.67 cr. #India biz.

Chhapaak's low income can also be credited to negative publicity it received due to Deepika Padukone's presence at the JNU protest, leading to boycott of the movie by certain section.
