Tamil actress Chitra's husband arrested for alleged abetment to suicide

Chennai : Chitra VJ's husband has been arrested by the police on Monday from Chennai; days after her mother accused him of torturing and beating her daughter to death.

The post-mortem report, however, says that the actress dies by suicide and financial constraints are being considered as the possible reasons.

The actor's husband, Hemnath, faces charges for alleged abetment to suicide.

On December 10, Chitra VJ was found dead in her hotel room in Chennai.

The couple got married a few months ago. Investigators say Hemnath had been angry with Chitra for her intimate scenes in a television serial.

"Hemnath did not like a scene she had enacted on TV. On the day she died, he had also pushed her," Assistant Commissioner of Police Sudarshan told NDTV.

Crew of the show has also been questioned by the police officials.

The couple had checked into a hotel after Chitra's late-night shoot last week. Hemnath told investigators that Chitra locked herself in and he found her dead after the hotel authorities opened the room using a duplicate key.
