New Delhi : In a shocking incident, a Chennai girl was burnt alive by her ex-classmate who claimed to love her. The accused Aakash had been stalking her for over a month.

According to the reports, the 22-years-old engineering student Indhuja was at her home when her stalker entered her house and burnt her alive. The victim's mother Renuka (44) and sister Nivedha (20) also sustained severe burn injuries while trying to rescue her. The incident took place on Monday night in Saraswathi Nagar area of Chennai's Adambakkam.

The accused was caught and beaten up by neighbours but managed to flee the scene of the crime before police arrived. He was reportedly picked up by police on Tuesday.

The neighbours tried to save all three women by rushing them to Chromepet Government Hospital, however, Indhuja was declared ‘dead on arrival’. Renuka and Nivedha were later taken to the Kilpauk Medical College (KMC) Hospital.

Doctors at the KMC Hospital said Renuka and Nivedha suffered 49% and 23% burns respectively, mostly on their faces and hands.
