Coimbatore: 6 killed after speeding Audi hits people at bus stop, rams into auto

New Delhi : In a horrific road accident reported from Tamil Nadu, six people were killed and at least one was injured after a speeding car lost control and hit people waiting at a bus stop before ramming into an autorickshaw parked on a side of a road in Sundarpuram near Coimbatore.

Report mentions that the driver of a white Audi that was coming from Pollachi to Coimbatore lost control near Periyar bus stop at 9:30 am, today morning, leading to the accident. A CCTV footage of the incident is going viral.

The deceased victims have been identified as Somu (55), Suresh (43), Amsaveni (30), Subhashini (20), Srirangadas (75) and Kuppammal (60), a report said.

Those injured were rushed to a nearby hospital. For now, the cops are investigating the incident.

In the meantime, the driver has been arrested by the police, news agency ANI reported.

“This is an unfortunate incident. The police has taken blood sample of the driver to check if he was drunk when he was driving,” Coimbatore District Collector Hariharan was quoted by TNM as saying.

Sources confirmed that the car belongs to the owner of Raththinam College in Coimbatore.

According to a report released by the Tamil Nadu Police in 2013, there were a total of 15,563 fatalities in 14,504 recorded accidents. It is always necessary to drive carefully following the traffic rules. Also, government should implement compulsory driving rules which might lessen the road mishap cases in near future.
