New Delhi : Six people, including two children, lost their lives and 11 others were injured in a fire incident at a residential building in the South east Delhi last night.

The four-storey building is located at the Zakir Nagar, near Jamia Millia Islamia University. The fire incident was reported at around 2 am when most of the residents of the building were sleeping.

In the initial reports, it has been learned that the fire started from the electricity box. Over 20 people have been rescued from the spot. Among the injured are those who jumped off the building to save themselves. The injured have been taken to a nearby hospital. Two fire-fighters are among the injured.

Around seven cars and 19 motorcycles were destroyed in the fire.

"Five patients are in the intensive care unit (ICU), some are in the ward and one is in the pediatric ICU. Everything is under control. We have specialists to look after the patients," said Dr Mala, Chief Medical Officer at Holy Family Hospital.

Reacting to the incident, Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal said that his government will do all the needful help of the affected families.
