New Delhi : The Election Commission of India on Monday announced the dates for upcoming Delhi Assembly Polls. The election body said that the voting will be done on February 8 and counting of votes will be done on February 11.

The 70-member Delhi Assembly working term will officially end on February 22 and a new House must be constituted before the date.

For the elections, CM Arvind Kejriwal led Aam Aadmi Party will be seeking a second term after their massive victory in 2015. The AAP had won 67 seats and the remaining 3 seats had gone to the BJP.

Congress had failed to score any seat then.

Meanwhile, Delhi is burning with protests over attack on students inside the Jawaharlal Nehru University Campus, also with protests against the Citizenship Amendment Bill.

CEC Sunil Arora, taking note of the current situation, said that the Election Commission may defer elections to a later date in case of any extraordinary situation.

"Door to door verification has happened for these elections. A total of 1,46,92,136 electors are eligible to vote for the polls," CEC Sunil Arora added.

Talking about facilities that wil be provided to the voters he said, "Rams and wheelchairs have been provided for the voters in need. Pick and drop facility for PWD and senior citizens will be provided."
