Four dead after fire breaks out at multi-storey building in Delhi

New Delhi : Fire broke out in the early morning, today, in Delhi's Kohat Enclave leading to the death of four people. According to report, the four deceased were of the same family, husband, wife and two kids. Police have started investigation to dig out the cause of sudden fire in the building.

The fire apparently broke out due to a short circuit in the early hours of Friday, sources in the fire department said. Reports suggest that members who have died are of the same family including a three-year-old and a seven-year-old.

Along with lived, five vehicles parked in the basement of the building collapsed in the fire. Neighbours believe that the fire sparked from the pump room of the building. They claim fire officials were informed immediately but they arrived late on the spot.

Meanwhile, the police have started to probe the reason behind sudden outburst of fire.

Another fire incident was reported from Delhi Indirapuram area. A vehicle in motion was completely burnt after it caught fire. However, there was no loss of lives and no one was injured.

Last week, too, the capital city saw a lots more fire incidents. A fire officer was seriously injured while trying to extinguish fire that caught the top floor of a four-storey building in the busy market area in Delhi's Lajpat Nagar.

"The call about fire in a fourth floor of a building in Lajpat Nagar-II's Central Market area was received at 8:55 AM on Wednesday, and 10 fire tenders were rushed to the spot," said an officer of the Delhi Fire Service. A firefighter was injured after a cylinder exploded while he was overseeing the operations. "He suffered burn injuries on his face and hands," the official said.

Sources confirmed that investigation is going on for both the cases of fire in Kohat Enclave or Lajpat Nagar. Police are looking into whether the multi-storey buildings had emergency exits as they are located in a crowded area.

For now, the officials of Delhi Development Authority have planned to form a special task force to check if the constructions are illegal and the designs are at risk to fire-related accidents
