New Delhi : A grenade blast has been reported in the Lal Chowk area of Srinagar and in Shopian area. Sources confirmed that suspected militants lobbed a grenade at a contingent of the Central Reserve Police Force on Friday, i.e January 18. For now, no immediate reports of injuries or deaths have been reported.

Militants have carried out three grenade blasts have now taken place in Kashmir in the past 24 hours. On January 17, three police officers were wounded when suspected militants hurled a grenade at security forces near Zero Bridge in Srinagar’s Rajbagh area. The three injured cops were identified as Iqbal Singh, an assistant sub-inspector, and traffic police personnel Haris Manzoor and Sanullah.

Eye witnesses confirmed that the grenade exploded with a bang. 

PTI reports that the militant attack on Thursday took place less than 100 metres from the National Conference headquarters and the local office of the All India Radio.

On January 3, this year, security forces gunned down three militants in Tral town of Pulwama district.

On January 12, two terrorists including top Al-Badr commander Zeenat-ul-Islam have been killed in an encounter with security forces in Kulgam district of Jammu and Kashmir. Also, six civilians are also reported to have been injured.

According to police officials, at least nine top ranking, most wanted militant commanders have been neutralised in the past few months, including Ahmad Dar alias Altaf Kachroo, Umar Majid Ganai, Zeenat-ul-Islam, Manan Wani and Dawood Sofi. More encounters of militants are waiting to be accomplished. A great salute to the soldiers who are sacrificing their life for the well-being of civilians.
