New Delhi : With an additional endorsed budget of Rs 231 crores, the construction of much-delayed Signature Bridge is likely to pick up pace, said an official statement.

The Delhi PWD had sought an expert opinion from CPWD after Delhi Tourism and Transportation Development Corporation (DTTDC) submitted a revised budget of Rs 1,575 crores to complete it.

The project was approved by Delhi government in 2007 and was expected to complete before Commonwealth Games in 2010.

According to a report, the Delhi government has already given Rs 1,334 crores of the revised budget. An official privy to information related to the project said of the ₹231 crore, the PWD has already given ₹36 crore to the DTTDC but had not released the amount to the contractor in view of the PWD seeking the CPWD’s opinion.

The development comes after Delhi High Court pulled up PWD and DTTDC for delaying the project. The court also gave them last chance to finish the project without any increase in the cost
