11,929 new coronavirus cases take India's total tally over 3.2 lakh

New Delhi : India's total tally of coronavirus cases went above 3.2 lakh as the country registered its highest single-day jump of 11,929 new infections in the last 24 hours and 311 deaths, the Union Health Ministry said this morning. 9,195 people have lost their lives to coronavirus till date.

Incidentally, this was the second consecutive day when India registered over 11,000 cases in one day. Two days back, India shifted two steps and attained fourth spot on the tally of countries worst affected by the Covid 19 infection spread.

Above India are Russia, Brazil and United States.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday met Home Minister Amit Shah and Health Minister Harsh Vardhan, among other ministers and officials, to review the country's response to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Meanwhile, the health department has included loss of taste and smell as the new symptoms of coronavirus.

As restrictions ease across the country in a phased manner, Uttarakhand on Saturday announced a jail term of six months and a fine of Rs 5,000 for not wearing masks in public places. In Delhi, Lt Governor Anil Baijal on Saturday empowered health, revenue and police officials to impose fines up to Rs 1,000 for violations of COVID-19 rules.
