2013 Delhi rape case: Court holds two guilty, says victim experienced extreme brutality

New Delhi : A Karkardooma court on Saturday pronounced two men guilty under the sections of attempt to murder, rape and kidnapping in 2013 Delhi rape case. The quantum of punishment will be pronounced on January 30.

Announcing the judgement in the case, the court said, "In our society, minor girls are worshipped as a goddess on certain occasions but in the present case the victim child had experienced exceptional depravity and extreme brutality."

"The crime against the victim was committed in a most grotesque and revolting manner and the collective conscience of the community was shaken," the court added while convicting the two accused, - Manoj Kumar and Pradeep - guilty.

Delhi Chief Minister reacted on the judgement of the case and said he wants the culprits to be nabbed within six months and not like the case that took around seven years for the judgement. "Both the accused were convicted in the Gudiya rape case. It took seven years. Together we have to fix this system as soon as possible. If we want to end the mentality of assault against our sisters and daughters, then we have to have a system of convicting the rapists within 6 months of rape cases (sic.)," he tweeted in Hindi.

Meanwhile, one of the convicts attacked a female journalist while he was being taken out of the court.

On April 15, 2013, just four months after the brutal gangrape and murder of Nirbhaya, a five-year-old girl was kidnapped and gangraped by her neighbour and his friend in east Delhi’s Gandhi Nagar.
