3 Union Ministers hold talk with farmers amid protests

New Delhi : Third round of talks were held in Chandigarh with the protesting farmers and three union ministers on Thursday. This comes after security personnel and protesters were at the standoff at 2 points on the Punjab-Haryana border.

Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann also joined the meeting at Mahatma Gandhi State Institute of Public Administration in sector 26, Chandigarh.

Union agriculture and farmer welfare minister Arjun Munda, commerce and industry minister, Piyush Goyal, Minister of state and Home Affairs, Nityanand Rai, represented Centre at the meeting over farmers union’s various demands, including guaranteed minimum support price (MSP) for the crops.

It must be noted that this was the third round of talks between the protesters and the Union Ministers. Two previous rounds of dialogue were held on February 8 and February 12, which were inconclusive.

Meanwhile, the Samyukta Kisan Morja (Non-political) and Kisan Mazdoor Morcha have called for "Dilli Chalo" campaign to press the BJP-led Centre to accept their demands.

On Tuesday, farmers from Punjab started their march to the national capital, but were stopped by the police and security personnel at Shambhu and Khanauri border points between Delhi and Haryana.

For now, the protesting farmers are camping at the border points.

Another section of protesters has raised demands of stopping the trains on track until the government accepts their demands. While some others had captured toll booths and forced authorities to pass commuters without charging any toll on the roads.
