Delhi coronavirus cases rise steeply, six with unknown source

New Delhi : Amid exodus on Delhi-UP border, the national capital on Sunday registered a steep rise in the total number of coronavirus positive cases.

23 new infections of SARS-CoV-2 took the total tally of coronavirus positive cases in Delhi to 72 from 49, said the health department on Sunday briefing.

Among the newly registered cases, the officials were unable to find the source of infection in six coronavirus patients. These six patients do not have any travel history and were not in contact with the ones tested positive with travel history.

The experts have raised doubts over coronavirus slipping into community transmission in the national capital.

"The reports of these people who tested positive have just come to us and our teams are right now in the field trying to trace their contacts. At the moment, we do not know the source of infection in six cases. Now we have many labs in the city testing people but they do not necessarily collect history," said an official from the state disease surveillance programme.

Thirteen of the remaining fresh cases were traced to recent foreign travel history, while four others were linked to direct contact with another infected person.

In Delhi, two deaths have been reported till date and five people have been discharged after their treatment.
