Anna Hazare over EVM row: Demands to go back to ballot systems wrong

New Delhi : Demanding to go back to ballot system with a doubt on electronic voting machines (EVM) is wrong, says social crusader Anna Hazare in an interview.

"The EVMs should not be discontinued. Those who doubt the machines are trying to go back in time. The world is moving ahead and EVM is the way to go", he said.

Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and BSP supremo Mayawati has raised serious concerns over alleged fraud with EVMs during the recently concluded Assembly Elections in Uttar Pradesh and Punjab.

Anna Hazare also urged union government and Election Commission to opt for totalizer machines, which do not allow candidates to recognize from where they have been voted or not.

"A totaliser machine makes it impossible to find out boothwise voting pattern. When candidates find out which areas did not vote for them, they become vindictive and harass voters", he said.

He claimed that the government has not yet given a positive response to his demand to use totalizer machines.
